3.1 The measurement system presented in this guide is intended to ensure uniform arrow shaft straightness measurement standards to avoid confusion of the consumer, which results from the use of different straightness measurement systems.AbstractThis guide covers the measurement guidelines for arrow shaft straightness and is intended to provide a standard means of measuring straightness using a fixed span distance by employing tools and devices available in the archery industry. The arrow shafts shall be measured for straightness using a span type measurement technique, where the measurements shall be taken at the center of the span by a noncontact laser type optical measurement device. The accuracy of the measurement shall depend on the consistency of roundness of the arrow shafts. However, in the case where the arrow shaft is not round, additional measurement devices shall be considered to ensure the accuracy of measurement. The straightness measurement values shall be represented by total indicator readings.1.1 This guide covers the formulation and designation of straightness measurement standards and nomenclature for arrow shafts.1.2 This guide is designed to provide manufacturers and consumers a means for measuring the straightness of arrow shafts with tools and devices available in the archery industry and sport.1.3 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as the standard.
